The Powerful Play
“We all like to do something. We are made to create. Whether it is writing, painting or singing doesn’t matter. Creating gives birth to serenity. When you’re in the flow of creating in a form you enjoy, you will see what I am talking about. My favorite form is writing at the moment.” - Celestine Chua
Ignoring your creative side can lead to stress, anguish, pent up frustration, and inner turmoil. So many of us are afraid to let our voices be heard. It’s ok if you think you can’t draw, just start sketching something simple. It’s ok if you think you can’t paint, just pick up some watercolors and see what happens. Use your favorite colors, turn on some music you love, lose control on the paper, don’t worry about being judged or graded. The point is getting the emotion out and releasing whatever you are holding onto inside.
“Now is the time…
to nurture your creativity
We are all creative.
We are all artists of some kind.
Some are better than others,
a few are geniuses.
But we all have a creative spirit.
Allow it to rise up.
Nurture it, challenge it.
Give it freedom.
Celebrate it.”
- 170 Ways to Seize the Moment by Patrick Lindsay
Everyone has a unique point of view of the world. No two people see the world in exactly the same way. So why not lend your voice to the chorus of others who are not afraid to show themselves? Why not sing in the shower and let your spirit have some fun? Singing, writing, painting, creating, all these relieve tension if you make time to do them and lose yourself in the flow. Creativity reminds you that you are a living, vital being. You are allowed to contribute a verse to this life, this ‘powerful play’ as Mr. Keating would say in Dead Poet’s Society. What will your verse be?
